Maasvlakte (Netherlands)

Maasvlakte is a large industrial estate with its own port, and is part of the Rotterdam port complex in the Netherlands. The project began with land reclamation by hydraulic filling for Maasvlakte 2.

  • About 2,000 hectares of land
  • Landfill with 240 million m³ of sand
  • Seawall of 3.5 km with seven million tonnes of stone and 20,000 concrete blocks
  • Two million tonnes of stones were used for coastal protection, as were the concrete block
  • Broadening the runway from 45 to 60 metres
  • Extending safety areas from 100 to 150 metres
